Biography

Lex Renteria is a Mexican filmmaker recognized for his bold and personal approach to visual storytelling. His debut short film, "Neon Purple", premiered during the Guadalajara International Film Festival in June 2024, where it also competed in the Hecho en Jalisco section. Inspired by his life experience as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Lex specializes in crafting authentic and emotive narratives that resonate with audiences. His distinctive style is characterized by powerful and vibrant cinematography, marked by contrasts, saturated colors, and an inventive use of neon lights in urban settings. Over a decade in the audiovisual arts, with a background in film and experience as a product designer, have enriched his creative vision. His vibrant style, inherited from the nocturnal energy of Guadalajara, is transformed into visual art in each project. An example of this is his short film "Agaves al Alba", made in just 48 hours as part of the Rally Expresso Tequila at the Tequila International Film Festival. This short film tells the story of two friends and their inevitable farewell, confirming Lex's talent and skill in capturing complex emotions in a short format. Lex is convinced that "telling our stories is an act of resistance". Cinema becomes his tool to make diversity visible, celebrate resilience, and amplify the voices of his community. With his commitment to authenticity and his daring visual approach, Lex Renteria is positioning himself as a new name to watch in the Mexican film industry.
