Biography

Alejandro Víctor Ibañez, a retired Marine and Malvinas war veteran, was born in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, on 13 March 1964. From an early age, his life was linked to the sea, as his family settled in Mar del Plata when he was just a baby. His older brother, Carlos Walter Ibañez, also an infant and a veteran of the Malvinas War, played a crucial role on Isla Borbón during that historic conflict. On a personal level, Victor has been married to María Andrea for forty years. As a result of their love, they have four children: three daughters, aged 38, 37 and 14 respectively, and a son aged 34, as well as five adorable grandchildren. Since 2010 he has been working as a doorman at the high school "Polivalente de Arte", a job he greatly enjoys. His presence at the institution is not only limited to the assigned tasks, but he also stands out for his connection with the students. The adolescents appreciate him, and he reciprocates with palpable care and affection, earning their trust and acting as a conciliatory mediator in their relationships. In addition to his work at the Polivalente de Arte, Victor devotes part of his time to giving talks in schools about the Malvinas cause, sharing his experience and knowledge with the younger generations. His commitment to the memory and defence of veterans led him to become President of the Association of Veterans Defenders of the Malvinas (Avedema), where he works tirelessly for the rights and recognition of those who fought for the sovereignty of the islands. For his bravery and outstanding service, Victor was decorated with multiple awards, including the Wounded in Combat Medal, the Navy Combat Operations Medal, the Congressional Medal and the Medal of Combat Valour. These decorations are a testament to the courage and dedication he has shown throughout his life in service to his country and community.
