Biography

Son of Giuseppina and Raffaele Bassani, born on July 31, 1902 in Imola, Emilia-Romagna, Italy; residing there in 1943. 4th grade. Construction worker. Member of the PCI since 1921, he was part of Imola's Communist Youth. Arrested, he was temporarily released on May 2, 1927 from prison for lack of evidence, after being subjected to an act of submission. With the sentence of June 13, 1927 he was acquitted without further proceeding. The sentence impacted 276 anti-fascists, 19 of whom were sent back to the Special Court, while the other 257 were acquitted because the evidence against them was limited to the years prior to the exceptional laws. He continued his anti-fascist activity by distributing leaflets and the clandestine press. During the Resistance, he served in the 36th Bianconcini Garibaldi brigade and in the SAP Imola brigade. After the war, he was recognized as a partisan for his service from October 1, 1943 to the Liberation. Date of death unknown.
