Biography

American countertenor Brennan Hall was born in Brooklyn, New York and made his film debut in Matthew Barney's River of Fundament, a non-traditional filmed opera. He started singing at the age 7 and is the only musician in his family. He made his debut singing at Carnegie Hall in a Master Class with Martin Katz as part of Marilyn Horne's annual series, The Song Continues. He also sings professionally with the American Bach Soloists, based in San Francisco and Bach Vesper at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New York City. Hall performed several scenes from Barney's film at the 2012 Summer Holland Festival in Amsterdam. He performed the title role in Phillip Glass's Akhnaten with the Indianapolis Opera Company. This summer he will perform the lead role of Oberon in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream with Opera on The Avalon, and the role of Arsamene in Handel's Xerxes with Bel Canatanti Opera. Hall has performed the roles of the Spirit in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and as Willie in Small Box, a new one-act opera by librettist Bruce L. Pearson and composer Herman Whitfield III. He has also appeared in scenes as Sesto in Giulio Cesare, Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice, and Malcome in La Donna del Lago at the Jacobs School of Music.
