I don’t think It’s a good movie. I mean, the action was OK but lack in story and here and there… like discontinuity in some of the scenes or long, unimportant and boring dialog (between Astri and her brother, or Astri and Yuda when he came to rescue her-too melodrama and excessive). And the most annoying things was the BLOOD and bruises. Oh, It’s sooo FAKE, I could tell it!
And I don’t think the opening scene is important or the fact that Yuda came from Padang (West Sumatra) and has basic culture like religious side and silat. I mean, when he in Jakarta, we didn’t see he tried to find a mosque or praying, for example (that’s a duty we can’t abandon, you know!). And the silat (although I don’t know much) I think is different from other martials art (the movement and stuff, like we see when Yuda do it with his teacher back then in Padang), but when he did it with the criminals, I can’t tell the differences between Merantau and Ong Bak or Jackie Chan’s movie.
